My Technology Journey and Byte IT

Hello, my name is Daymond Armstrong, and long before Byte IT existed, my technology journey began. In 1977, I sat down at a Tandy TRS80 and was instantly hooked. That first spark ignited a lifelong passion for computers and technology.


Shortly after the release of the IBM 8086, my father opened a computer service and repair shop. With the dawning of the PC era, my enthusiasm for learning and building grew even stronger.


Over the years, my career took me through leading companies such as Compaq (now HP), Cisco Systems, and others. But despite the opportunities, I often saw mismanagement and inefficiency. One of my most rewarding roles had me training teams across three countries—only to have our jobs eliminated once the training was done. That experience inspired me to form Byte IT, a company built on values of integrity, expertise, and real problem-solving.


Later, I returned to the corporate world, only to face more of the same challenges: mismanagement, short-sighted leadership, and even a mass layoff. These experiences only strengthened my belief that the IT world needs voices willing to share honest insights.


With more than 47 years of hands-on experience in PCs, networks, and countless sub-technologies, I’ve gained a perspective worth sharing. This site is where I document that technology journey—from the early days of personal computing to the innovations shaping our future.
